Webmaster's Comments

The Essex Review was first issued in 1892, as a periodical which reported on things of interest in the county of Essex. It was published quarterly until well into the 1950s (I think until 1957). Today it is of immense interest to genealogists and local historians.

I am fortunate in that I do have a few bound copies of this journal. I thought that it would be nice to transcribe the contents of the very first issue, and make it available on the internet. I have to confess that I did not recognise just how much work this would entail. I had intended to wait until I had completed all of the first issue before uploading to my site, but that could take more time than I have available. Therefore, I have decided to publish what little I have done so far in the hope that I will be able to add to it from time to time.

Because this is typed (with two fingers) and not scanned, there is every likelihood that some typographical errors may have crept in. If you see any such errors, please (contact me).
